The GHG working group of Colombian Academy of Sciences began by the initiative of Dr. Humberto Rodríguez in 1993. In that time a proposals of the group was selected by External Relationships Ministry to perform the Colombian Greenhouse Gas Inventory with the support of GTZ in the context of the commitments acquired by the country after subscribe the CMNUCC in River of Janeiro in 1992.

During 1995 the group done the Preliminary GHG Inventory of Colombia, ended and published in 1996.

The results of the inventory were published in the book "Inventory Preliminary of Greenhouse Gases in Colombia 1990".

In 1998 the group began a second phase, this time to study options of reduction of emissions in Colombia.

The results of this second phase were published in March of 2000 in the book "Options for the Reduction of Emissions of Greenhouse Gases in Colombia" .

During 2000 the group done the Colombian Portfolio of Reduction Emissions Projects in the Energy Sector, published in september 2000.

a recently, the group of the academy has participated actively with the Ministry of the Environment in the Study of National Strategy for the Implementation of the CDM in Colombia, those results were presented in April 12 at the 14 of the presents year.
